A sunrise for the wall behind a single bed. A half-moon of woven cane sits at the centre, with slim rattan rays and petal-shaped loops fanning out from it, all inside one big arch. It turns a plain bed into a bed with a focal point.
Look at the detail. The loops are bent by hand and the joints are bound with darker cane, so the headboard looks made rather than assembled. The frame is open, so light and wall colour show through the rays. Against a deep green or terracotta wall the rattan glows, and against white it looks like a line drawing.
At 92 cm wide it fits a standard UK single bed, with a mattress width of 90 cm. It stands 104 cm high and only 2 cm deep, so it sits close to the wall and doesn’t push the bed out into the room. It works in a guest room, a box room or a child’s room. It also works in a studio flat, where the bed is the sofa and has to look good too.
Being upfront: this is a decorative open frame, not a padded headboard. For sitting up in bed with a book, you’ll want a cushion or a wedge pillow behind you. It looks lovely and it isn’t a backrest.
Very good vintage condition, with no damage. It ships with the wooden legs detached, to travel safely.
