All the wings, none of the bulk. Most wingbacks are heavy, deep and buttoned. This one has the high back and the curved wings that make you want to tuck your legs up, on a light, open frame. It has flat, sculpted wooden arms and slim tapered legs. It looks like a modern chair that happens to have wings.
Parker Knoll is a name most British families recognise, and this is the PK 988 model, made in Britain. Look at the frame. The wood runs up and round the arms like the rail of a boat, and the side panels are upholstered between the wood. That’s the detail that sets it apart from the usual wingback.
The upholstery is a small diamond pattern in cream, taupe-green and dusty rose, quiet enough to suit most rooms and detailed enough to look interesting from across them. It’s foam-filled, and the seat sits low at 37 cm. That makes it a relaxed chair for reading and long evenings. It’s less ideal if you need a higher seat to stand up from easily.
At 66 cm wide it takes less floor space than a normal armchair. It would fit a bedroom corner, a snug or either side of a fireplace.
The structure is very solid. There are a couple of marks on the upholstery, shown in the photos. The wood frame is in good shape, so if you ever fancy a change it would reupholster well in a fabric of your choice.
Very good condition overall for its age.
