A console table that earns its place in a hallway, behind a sofa, under a window or on a landing. It’s compact at 99 cm long and 47 cm deep, so it fits where a sideboard won’t.
The detail to look at is the crossed stretcher underneath. The two slim bars meet in the middle and brace the whole table, and it’s a flourish most consoles skip. Above it are tapered legs and two drawers side by side with slim curved metal pulls. The teak grain runs vertically across the top and drawer fronts, with softly rounded corners on the top.
Wrighton was a London maker. F. Wrighton & Sons made quality furniture from the 1920s to the 1970s, and their teak pieces are collected now. This is the kind of understated piece that looks like it was always in the house.
Being upfront: the back of the table has two holes where a glass panel was originally fitted. The panel is missing and the holes are shown in the photos. A glazier can cut a replacement to size if you’d like it restored, or you can leave it as it is.
Very good condition otherwise.
